One of the jeans companies came out with a commercial for their American flagged jeans post 9-11, and they used the short clip from "Fortunate Son" that said "Some people born, made to raise the flag, yeah, they're red white and blue" and cut the song seg right there. It ticked me off so bad I wrote to the company. They replied that John Fogarty had given concerts for veterans.
That's not the point, bozo! The point is that they were taking a phrase EXACTLY out of context, and using it to sell their jeans!
At Woodstock, Jimi Hendrix, himself a veteran of the 101 Airborne (no combat), performed "Izabella", which was a pro-soldier song : "you know I'm fighting this war for you." I've never heard it played anywhere except on his Woodstock album.

    Motörhead

I will start with a recent find from a old school hard rock band...Motorhead!

I'm sure most of us out there who grew up in the 80's remembers this hard-thrashing rock band. One of my favorites for sure. This song blew me away when I heard it recently. A fine tribute to the Commonwealth soldier.

16 years old when I went to the war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Is a long enough life for a soldier,
We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
    Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood,
    Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
The day not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names,
And that's how it is for a soldier.

Here are the lyrics to "Fighting 99th," the song of the 99th Pursuit Squadron, aka The Tuskegee Airmen. Can't find a clip of the melody, though.

Contact - Joy stick back -
    Sailing through the blue
Gallant sons of the 99th -
    Brown men tried and true
We are the Heroes of the night -
To hell with the Axis might
    FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
    Fighting 99th.

    Rat-tat, Rat-tat-tat -
    Down in flames they go
The withering fire of the 99th -
    sends them down below
We are the Heroes of the night -
To hell with the Axis might
    FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
    Fighting 99th.

    Drink-k up-p, Drain your cup-p -
    To those daring men
    (To those daring men)
    Flying torch of flame,
Oh GOD-D - Red White and Blue -
    Amen.

    For-r We-e Ar-re -
    Heroes of the Ninth
To Hell with the Axis might
    FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
    Fighting 99th
