Depends with surplus, they aren't made to exacting standards as long they don't blow your gun up so each round may be different. On the other hand the more modern surplus may be a bit more uniform, I for example bought 80's Ukrainian surp. and the first 4 shots with a Mosin were all within a quarter sized area. Before that and after that I'm not exactly consistent.

If you want true accuracy hand load your own rounds, polish your bolt and trigger (or get an aftermarket one).

Just stay away from Olympic, as it is the worst... and it isn't even true surplus... just made like cheap greek surp.

I have found Yugo M30 to be the best in my MN's. All brass case made in the 80's and 90's. Pretty cheap to buy as well.

My first milsurp buy was Czech light ball, the dreaded green lacquered stuff. It shoot quite well. now I'm running on a tin of Russian light ball, and its even better, and doesn't cause stickybolt.

Though of course my reloads are the best.

I've had good results with Russian light ball, shooting a 1in. group at 100 yds. But just because it does well in my rifle, doesn't mean it'll do well in yours. You need to experiment a little or better yet, like somebody else said load your own.

The best to date other than reloads has been some German made Target ammo that Moose gave me some of.

I don't think it really matters much when your talking about Milsurp. Either your Mosin shoots strait or it doesn't.If it doesn't shoot strait doesn't matter what round you put in it. If you want accurate loads buy some of the modern stuff or reload your own as others have suggested.

It works, I recrowned an Ak after i gave it a slight counter bore. The gun went from 3foot groups at 25yards to cinder blocks at 100.

Also had to do it to a No.4 that couldnt even hit the target at 50, now groups can be covered by the palm of my hand. I didnt file anything, just polished the crown up the same way old larry did.

Milsurp ammo wise. I usually jsut use whatever i can get. But My Mosins seem to really like Bulgarian heavy ball. I have yet to try the lightball.

Mine does well with the Russian light ball, haven't run across anything else in my local area and since it likes it and the price is right, it'll do till I can save up for a spam can or two.

mosin nagants are not "acurate" with ANY ammo, so one is as good as the other.

So a 1" group at 100 yards isn't within your realm of "accurate" I take it?

Apparently you may be confusing a RIFLE'S accuracy as compared with the SHOOTER'S accuracy.

Maybe you didn't have a good day at the range, hmmmm?
