Forgetful builds

Have you ever built an AR, and your able to quote every part in the gun, where it was bought, and how much you paid for it?

Then several years later, your looking at the charging handle and can’t figure out who’s it is or where you bought it?

Yup! And it doesn't take me a few years to forget - maybe about 2 months.
But I keep receipts and usually can go back through those to figure it out.

I do remember each completed gun I have bought. Where I bought it, the circumstances, and about what I paid for it. I just forget when I bought it.

Jerry I have AR's I built and cant remember what brand lower or where I bought it. Also where, when or how much the LPK cost, came from or when I bought them. Same with all the new lowers I still have and LPK's. I have two Dark Earth stock sets I came across for M4 and cant remember where I ordered them from. Also three new uppers not yet used and goes on and on. Its just like way too much I thought but maybe not.

I don't remember where I got or even how much I paid for any of my AR build parts. I usually buy parts from who ever has a sale and rarely are all the parts from the same vendor. thats why when I post a pic of one of my AR 15s, I dont list all the individual parts, their cost and where I got them. I just enjoy building and shooting them.;):D

Ditto! ... It's amazing how fast the memory fades. What I've taken to doing anymore is putting a folder on my computer with copies of the receipts and PDF's of the web page with the listing for the parts in it, along with any manuals etc. for stuff in PDF as well. Definitely Keeps me straight down the road when I'm trying to remember!

Lol....the receiver has the manufacturer on it which is stamped. The lpk is usually a who cares kind of thing so long as the components are of reasonable quality. The fire control groups are unique to the manufacturer (like the LaRue MBT trigger or the PSA EPT group). The springs are either the Sprinco C/S or the JB or Tubbs flat each of which are unique and the ST-T2 buffers have their things stamped on them.

So even though I completely forget I can usually figure out where the stuff came from.

I just gotta watch not to misplace the spare BCG (s) for if and when a bolt fails. I spend alot of time 'rediscovering' things.

It's been useful during the ammo crunch in that I've found I was more prudent than I thought in the past.

Lol. My memory on AR’s is very spotty. For instance, just this last few days I decided to get out an AR 9mm build I had stuffed away in frustration, as I recall. Hahn adapter block for colt mags, I think a Cmmg upper. I can’t remember the lpk, but it has a heavy buffer which I tweaked for rearward travel so the bolt would travel far enough back. I remember the feed shoving rounds high above the chamber and jamming, I thought. Now I remember, the bolt was short stroking and not picking up rounds.
Anyways, somewhere around here I misplaced a 32 round mag the other day, still haven’t found it. Pulled out another and fed some snap caps through the action, works like a charm. Feeds, ejects, hold open works, etc.
so much for memory. The work on the buffer had fixed it.
But wait there’s more! Was looking at buying a few more mags, I did order 2 last week, and they came today. This made 3 total, and one missing. All three are feeding fine too. My initial intent was to check mag insertion height to see if it was causing the feed problem, but there is no problem. Yay. Well, while searching for the missing mag up in the boxes of magazines upstairs, I decided to look at the AR15 5.56 mags. Lo and behold, 5 more 32 round 9mm mags were hiding with the 5.56 mags. But still one missing. It will turn up. But now I know I don’t need more mags. Lol.
