Hey guys. I just wanted to toss up a thread for us to come by every so often to talk about how we are doing today and how things are where we are.

As some of you know I am in a "small town" in Alabama, minor urban area, walking distance from vast farming areas and short drive to several areas of wilderness. So here in small town AL, the only real worry is the panic. Everywhere is out of everything useful to the average Baby Boomer, but those of us who frequent this section would have only a little trouble finding some handy thing to get by with. The schools are all shut down for the next few weeks and most of the government building will probably follow soon.

Me and my immediate family are in no danger of going hungry and we are all still working our regular hours. I'm kicking myself for not scratching that case of toilet paper off my prep list years ago, but what can I say? Ammo, water, food, first aid, trauma, armor, cooking supplies, soap, and much more all came first. Fuel and TP were next. Fueling up tomorrow. The only thing that worries me even a little is the health of my grandparents (86), already with the flu/pneumonia but doing well at home, and paying bills IFFF my job closes for a while, but for the foreseeable future, we have more work that "has to" be done, so we'll keep working and keep getting paid.

Everyone else good? Things OK where you are??

Hi everyone checking in. I went to town Walmart was packed. So I didn’t look around much . Cashed my check and went home. I’m going to go back later today I wanted to go to a local gun shop today to see if some items I ordered have come in.
The wife and I are running behind today.
She has to deal with her meth head son.
He wants to get a title loan on his truck.
I told her to take care of that . That way if he has some money he won’t stick around. To steal from us or bum money.
I’m just glad my son and her to other boys are not messed up like he is.
On my first trip to town today I looked for a pressure canner . No luck my father in law said when he goes to the flea market in Lima he will look for one.
On my trip to the gun shop I want to get some .45 acp and .350L
I will let everyone one know how it turned out.
Stay well everyone.

So my second trip to town was fairly productive. I found some .45 ACP it was a little expensive for me . I also found some ammunition for a rifle of mine. I still haven’t found the pressure canner . Or have they received the bullets that i ordered. I did find something that surprised me was a Aquamira frontier pro water filter . The best thing was it was only $16.00.
So that’s one thing I don’t have to order on line . Plus if I had ordered it would have cost another $10.
I also picked up a compact size of water proof matches.
So that was about the existent of my trip to town.

NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH FOOD AND USEFUL THINGS!

ABUNDANCE IS SURVIVAL!

With the coming food shortages (REAL, not just supply line glitches) you will be GLAD to have "TOO MUCH" food. ;):usa2:

Well on Thursday I went to Walmart . I had to check the appliance section of the store out . Where Walmart keeps the dehydrators at and the canning supplies etc. you wouldn’t believe what I finally found in stock!!?[emoji23][emoji2][emoji19]. Walmart had 2 16 quart pressure canners . $78 each.
Of course I was $20 short . So I left Wally World mad . This last week has been rough on me I have been picking up extra work on my days off. I thought that I wouldn’t get a pressure canner . This year that all changed today . I was working a odd job as I was working I got a phone call from my wife saying her dad found me a pressure canner. I think that waiting paid off because I ended up with a better canner. It’s a Mirro-Matic. Made in the USA .
He found it at a flea market / dog competition. In Lima . Also it is only going to cost me $40 [emoji16].
So the rough week got just a little better.
Now as far as work is going I’m up to a 35 hour a week now.
Plus our next pay will have 3 extra days on it . I have missed the bigger pay check of the month . So things are starting to get a little better .
Also everyone so far as their health goes at least family and friends are doing well.
Athens Ohio has reported 400 confirmed cases of COVID19 so far.
I hope everyone else is doing well.

I sometimes stop at these second hand stores while on the road. I know quite a few . I always have seen pressure cookers in them for sale. Well when the Covid came they are gone. They sell as quick as they hit the shelves. Plenty of canning jars and lids though.

Well I’m going to town tomorrow to get canning supplies. I may pick up some ammo . I hope my bullets I ordered a month ago come in . Not much going on in my area . This pay check is the first full check have gotten in a long while. So I’m going to make the most out of it.
I’m also going to pick up materials to put my wood burner in.
Everyone in my family health wise is doing well. I hope everyone else is too.
I will let you know how my trip went

I’m a little late getting back on my trip to town . It was very uneventful . I did go to the Rocky Boot outlet store and get a new holster . I also got the very last box of 12gauge 00 buck. A box of 5. I asked about 45acp all they had at Rocky was home defense rounds . Very pricy though. So I didn’t buy any.
I did notice that 45-70 ammo is hard to find around here. My favorite little gun shop is out and has been out for some time.
We now have a Menards in our area some tomorrow I’m going down to gather materials for installing a wood burner.
As for that I decided that I’m going to keep it permanently in the spot . That means I’m going to buy higher grade material to make it look nicer.
I did find 2 cases of one quart canning jars with lids and rings at Walmart last week I picked them up. After I get the wood stove installed. I’m getting started on canning and reloading projects.
Everyone in the family is doing fine health wise .
We have a new health policy at work if we have a fever cold etc. we are to stay home “Duh”. [emoji2957] The policy is we stay home until better and we are to use our PTO for self quarantine. Thing is we shouldn’t have to use our PTO if we are infected with Covid19 and are quarantined. That should not be held against us . It should count as temporary disability.
I’m going to have to check into that more .

The whole reason I'm riding out the ammo crunch with no stress at all is I've got 'too much ammo' and components.

In the ultimate of ironies, a relative (who leans left) asked me at the beginning of the year--before the WuFlu really started kicking in-- "why do you NEED so much ammo ?" (as if anyone who leans left could determine the needs of a rational person).

I likened it to golf--say you're a kinda lousy player (knocking your balls into the woods or water) and all of a sudden there were no more golf balls to be had. Preposterous ! he quips.

Ummmmmm.......yeah.........well, here we are (again).

So while training 9 sells for well over double what I bought it for (if you can find it at all) I'm shooting unencumbered.

This applies to pretty much everything in a panic herd-mentality stampede.

I'm still kicking around over here just outside Boise and doing about as well as can be expected I guess. Still minding my own business and doing my own thing while completely ignoring the Ada County Health districts so-called recommendations and completely ignoring any and all of this mask nonsense.

I am prepared for the violent coup attempt of the U.S. president in 2021 . However I am getting a few last preparations in place before the apocalypse . My immediate project for now is building another goat house to shelter my milk goats . My little group plan to have fresh milk to drink daily as the majority of the rest of the population slowly starves to death . Look at what happened to civilians in our North vs. South Civil War , especially in the southern states . Look as to what has happened to other countries when a communist / socialist take over " or attempted take over " occurred . Perhaps it will not get that bad but I don't plan taking the chance that it will not .

so your not joining in?

I'm doing exactly the same thing I was doing this time last year, and the year before, and the year before.
probably lay in a hundred pounds of tatoes and 20-30 lbs of onions for the winter again.

I tried to put some bags of pepperoni and a grouse breast in the freezer last night and all but had to rearrange the entire freezer to get them in.

I'm trying to decide if I want to expand the garden out some or tear out the raspberry bushes and mint to just make a little more room.

I already planted the garlic bulbs in a new spot and the spinach is re-volunteering itself in the same spot so I guess we will see how that goes next spring.

Still stocking up, saving up, inching forward. Wife is getting a little perturbed at the amount if peanut butter we have on hand, but it's one of my favorite foods and one of the most nutrient dense foods you can buy. If the world comes to an end or we end up stuck at home for weeks PB and crackers well make it all a lot more bearable for Barry.

Slowly getting preps build up. Levels got a little lower during summer. They’re back at normal levels but am increasing them in leu of this fall.
I love peanut butter but wife is allergic to it so I eat little of it, but she likes that WOW butter which I don’t. She has a good stock of it and i have a few large jars of PB so we should be good.

Still humming along, doing my best to prepare for the second round of the plague and shut downs. The freezer is stuffed, the pantry still has a few gaps but not like it did. The last real hurdle is paper goods. I need to make a Sam's run to get the supplies done. (Note to self...25 lbs of flour and 9 lbs of butter need to make it on the list).

Seeds for next spring are ordered, I'm well stocked with canning supplies and I serviced Hubby's great grandfather's push tiller (gods help me if I have to use it) in case I can't rent one.

Firewood. I am so set it's almost nauseating. Between the seasoned split stuff I grabbed from Craigslist, all of the seasoned from last year that needs splitting and a good sized tree that died last winter that I need to drop and process that's set. The tree that fell this summer will be good to go next year.

2 full propane tanks for the grill, meds, first aid supplies, fabric, general sewing supplies and a new to me antique treadle sewing machine with all the stuff that goes with it round out the preparations.

#580 ·
where'd you get the seeds?
I tried a few places and I either got in too early or looked in the wrong spots cause they had nothing in stock.

seed saving is new to me, but I've been giving it a try.
I may have screwed some of them up but it would be nothing more than time normally to find out.
this next spring might be a different story, and i'll need them.

#584 ·
yeah.
the greenhouse is in.
except I forgot to turn the heater on the other night and it got down to like 14 which pretty much done in the one tomato plant I had in there.
other than that the 500 bucks was well spent IMO
I use it to transition the seedlings I start in the garage to the outdoors, and I have a horse shoe shape bed around the back wall that has done pretty good at growing some things early and late.
I have a set of cabbage roots in there going on their second winter and they have sprouted out some nice cabbage heads each year now.

I got the 2 original cold frames.
plus 2 more raised bed poly tunnels put in this spring.

and the original let's see if this works poly tunnel.
that one is gonna get raised a bit higher and re-done.
a 14' lid works okay but it's just too much weight.
so I'm going to raise the bed at least another 2x6 higher then split the lid into 2 lids.

I did learn that the way our Sun light works here that having the poly tunnels running north and south gathers more heat than east and west.
at least 10 more degrees of heat in the early part of the year.

this has caused me re-think the expansion section into the final phase.

I put a couple of berry bushes and 2 fruit trees in that section already so I'm going to have to re-work the plan to fit in what I want while staying out of the ice line and going around those and working with the sprinkler system I already have in place.

I have been preparing for society break down after Nov . 3 . Increased my milk goat population from one Nanny to two Nannys so as to be able to provide more milk for our group of about 11 but figure We might have another relative or two to want to join us in our isolated retreat when S.H.T.F. . I have been building another shelter to protect the goats from the rain and cold . I plan to stock up on enough hay for this coming winter before November for the goats as I have recently built a small hay barn . Dog feed is also another item I want stocked before November but do not expect to be able to stockpile but two or three months of that . As for as people food , the deep freezes are full and are set up to run on solar in case we lose the power grid indefinitely . I finished my fire wood gathering last Thursday so we should be warm when society collapses . My wood cook stove is also ready with short and small pieces of wood cut and laying by it .

Well I bought two cases of quart jars .Next part of the plan is to buy a few of the bigger packs of bacon . Plus buy what I need to can the bacon.
Monday I plan on going to my favorite gun shop to see if they got the bullets in I ordered. Hopefully they do then I can start reloading. I may even pick up some other ammo as well just got to see what is in stock. I’m also going to pick up some cheese wax . Then I’m going to wax a batch of cheddar and Colby cheese.
Also while I’m in town I want to pick up some vanilla beans and vodka to make my own vanilla extract. I did get to do some work on my wood burner project. I just need to do a few things to get the stove set in. I’m hoping to get those things done and a few other things finished before our deer hun season.
I hope everyone else is doing ok . My family and I are still doing ok as far as none of us have gotten COVID19. My work has slowly picked up . I don’t think the company will fully recover from this.
