Who makes the nicest heavy barrel for the 10/22? Should I go aluminum or carbon fiber?

well i like my magnum research carbonfiber barrel. but you got to find what you like, just stick with name brand and you cant really go wrong. the only thing with the carbonfiber barrels is that they make the gun feel muzzle light if that bothers you.

I have never seen a aluminum barrel, but carbon fiber is the way to go. The weight of a steel/stainless steel barrel is fine if you are shooting off the bench, but if you hunt and carry your rifle a long distance you will wont a carbon fiber barrle the less weight the better.

OOOPS  I meant stainless steel. do the carbon barrels wear out fast? ARe they at all 'fragile'?

carbon fiber is fairly durable, it has some give to it. the rifled portion is actually a stainless tube so wear will be about the same.

carbon fiber is used for control surfaces on aircraft, fairly durable.
