It was 171 years (and one week) ago today that Louis Flobert applied for a patent for the first rimfire primed cartridge. It was basically (literally) a lead ball seated in a percussion cap. Soon came the 22 Long (which I wrote about here), and then the 22 LR that we all know and love.
It's funny, but of all the rounds I've ever hunted with, my fondest memories will always be of the 22 LR. No whitetail is ever going to top the first red squirrel I shot with my dad a hundred years ago. Can anyone else relate? If it's not the 22 LR, what round is your favorite hunting memory tied to?
