I've heard of 357 Rem Mag used on Whitetail deer with success.

Is this a good idea? I've generally thought 44 Rem Mag to be sufficient, but 357 to be questionable. But I'm presently attracted to a 357 as a multi-purpose handgun, and wonder if it would fit this role.

I have used a 357 mag and a 44mag as well as a 308. all drop white tail with no problems, with thier thin skin you want to use a personel protection round rather than a heavy hunting load.I have found i got more knock downs and less tracking to do with the winchester 145grn. silver tips than with the winchester hunting 180grn. load biger is not always better in a 357. but with any hand gun round shot placement is the big thing.
