In my great quest for grizzley bear defense gun, I'm looking to compare these three cartridges.

Since 50 Beowulf is based on 7.62x39mm, one built on the AK platform may be a better idea than an AR for close range due to higher capacity of cheap mags (AK-74) and the more rugged nature of the action.

But how does it compare to 45-70 and 500 S&W Mag?

    there's .50 AE, 458 SOCOOM for AR's

too. I gather that they are about 45-70 ballistics, but of course, available in a lw, rapidfiring autorifle, which has the option of firing .22lr, 223, 300 Whisper, .30 AK, .50 bmg, and many autopistol loads, too. So I would not waste my money, or my training time, on any lever action. A bear attack is likely to be at night. Luminous sights are a $100 drop in thing for the AR, and a $300 custom deal for the lever action.

BRG just get a BFR in 45-70 and you should be good I am going to AK after a Kodiak/Brownie in 06 and the sidearm I will have is the Ruger Super Blackhawk in 45 Colt using 300gr JSP's at 1200fps
