Again you come thru Toolman! They list it as 7.62x53R Hmmm? By the way, I swear my M39 has a laminate stock. But a friend says no! If I pull the buttplate can I tell for sure? And why would it have the butt toe reinforcement on it?

Steve, I just went back and loked at the pics of your new baby and no, it's not a laminate, it's Arctic birch. This is the most common stock and I really like them. The only drawback is that if you ever decide to refinish one, they don't take stain worth a flip. Here's a pic of my laminated M-44 and my M-39 so you can see the diff.

BTW, the toe reinforcement is done on all of the M-39's due to the propensity of the toe to shear off if the gun is smacked down on the butt very hard. It's my understanding that that is one of the reasons for the cupped buttplate on some of the Mausers.

Got it Toolman! Pulled the buttplate, found a knot in the wood. Will never refinish this one! Unless I get a better one. Buttplate is a pre 28 Izhevsk. On inside of it is is stamped "D" and a "I" and a "II"?

By the way, 7.62x53R is the exact same round as 7.62x54R, just a different name by a different country.
