When, I worked for the school, a hawk would sit on the goal post or a tree, all the while we were mowing grass. That was a pretty coll thing to watch.
He was probably waiting for you to spook some mice. We have a tiny goldfish pond in the backyard that many animals around here use for water. The redtail hawk that nests in a tall tree in an empty lot one street over from us has been known to sit in a tree on what used to be Uncle Paul's place and swoop silently in after chipmunks, squirrels, and birds.
