This is an attic find in a house well over 100years in age .
Am having a hard time figuring out what rifle this is .
Was owned by my grandparents I believe.

I haven’t looked for the barrel or sights but I would suspect they are up there somewhere.
It dose still cycle and the pin fires .

that’s really cool I might of found my great grandads war rifle

Looks like rear sight ears were machined off top of receiver bridge, commonly done for Sporter conversion. Scope mounts for Remington Model 30 should fit.

Honestly he could have .
He worked on a lot of his guns and was pretty knowledgeable in custom builds.
We have many others he modified including a
1895 Winchester.

yep you can see where he put it in a vice and took the barrel off the action.

as outpost mentioned Remington took a lot of these and made the Model 30 in 30-06.
i re-done one for a kid i was mentoring and it doted on Remington made 180gr. ammo.
he used that thing with that ammo to shoot rock chucks, deer and the one elk he was able to find.

i was able to modify a set of mauser rings to fit it and made him a brass trigger guard with some horrible engraving that had his initials.

Be cool if you finished the sporting rifle he was aiming to build. Finish the receiver pretty, rebarrel it and find a nice stock. Then bag you a nice deer in his memory

.303 isn't a bad way to go. Should be able to find ammo in Canada anyway.
