Well I have one WITH an intact mum
It was captured in dec 1942 on guadalcanal
the jap that shot the marine, was killed and the private was presented the rifle that he was wounded with. it stayed with him on the hospital ship and made it all the way home here in Seattle. the marine recoverd from his wounds and returned to the pacific theater of operations.
This is the story I was told when the guys great nephew asked if I wanted that old thing.............I said .........SURE
It has original sling and the fold out airplane sights the monopod is gone
as well as the dust cover.
all the Jap soldiers that saw action allways removed these items because they rattled.
Sad to say during the nisqually earth quake a coupla years ago I had the Arisaka hung on the wall, it was thrown off and the wrist of the original stock was cracked.
When I took it apart to see about repairing it I found heavy corrosion under the stock and it still has black blood from the original owner there so I closed it up
and left it.
I have the original bayonet with it also.
I wouldnt shoot that rifle on a bet but it is a significant piece of history.
Only war trophys have intact crysanthamums (sp)
They are around but less and less now.
Just like the NAZI Mausers that are on the market
When those go away they will be gone for ever
Soviet m44's with hammer and scycles.......same thing right now they are every where cheap as hell
in fifty or a hundred years, they will be worth BIG bucks, well lets hope so at least
