I hope things turn around in your favor. Shooting aged military arms is very interesting. My little brother's first hunting rifle was a Type 99 rechambered to a .30-06. The .311 bore shooting a .308 was not accurate, but fun.:)
Jim I know many of the Arisaka type 99's were converted to 3006. I have two that were sporterized but caliber is still 7.7. I bought them already done

Yes, You are referring to a rechamber and barrel set back. Many of the Type 38 rifles were rechambered to .257 Roberts. Problem a .257 bullet in a .264 bore? The rechambered 7.7 Jap required the .30-06 case to be loaded with a .311-.312 bullet to fit the Arisaka Bore. The 7.7 brass is available no need to rechamber the Jap rifles.
