Hello does anyone know anything about these I picked one up recently in 22 ( I believe it is similar to a 87a Stevens that's why I bought it I thought it was the same but not quite after further inspection it was made in Mexico and seems well built I would say better than the Stevens the ONLY markings on the rifle are ASTR MATIC and hecho de Mexico nothing else thanks I hope I did this right thanks

Well, the Blue book hasn't heard of it, and I can't find anything online. The only Mexican-made .22 I've ever seen is from Mendoza.

I pulled apart to clean and there is a serial number under the stock you can't see when assembled

Probably made by Mendoza, one of the few manufacturers in Mexico. If you didn't pay much for it, and it goes bang, then you have a good find.

It looks like the Mendoza, but I couldn't find one marked like that. Maybe a hardware store version?

    probably made for import.
there is really only like2 gun makers in Mexico.
Mendoza is the more famous and bigger of the two.
Mexico mostly used rifles for their military from other country's.
Mausers for like ever, then the Mendoza stuff.
some of which was helped along and finalized with American help.
the Mendoza machine gun was somewhat re-worked by Thompson[from the Thompson machine gun fame] or John Garand [i forget which] to work with 100% function and reliability.
