I had Balisongs over 20 years ago. I have a few bali's such as Benchmade Model 42 (440C and 125 CM), Model 32, and Model 51; Spyderco Szabofly VG20 and an incoming Bradley mayhem.

I like flipping them And it has become a recent obsession.

    Anyone else?

To my knowledge they are still illegal.

However they are fun to play with! Now for those that cannot get the real deal Cold Steel makes one that looks just like the real thing but needs to hands to open with.

  3. Its a unique sound and skill, hear it and do it once (and cut across your knuckles) once and your hooked. Trouble is finding a trainer knife now and a good guide.

One of my buddies Dad got a large balli when he was stationed in the phillipines. He taught us both how to flip it open quickly. No other knife felt more ballanced in my hand than that one. I want to say it had a 7 " blade maybe more. It was solid smooth sharp and very well made.

If you were ever in the Nav or stationed in the PI you would know all about butterfly and the other reason is due to the way the handles operate
