Does anyone know the original purpose of the safety pin that is attached to the strap of the Garand bandoliers? I just bought some, they all have the safety pins, and I have no idea why.

no one seems to know for sure. i think is purpose was to pin the bandaleer to the clothing so it wouldnt flop around during the rigors of combat. my opinion anyhow.

Flyboy is right as some guys were shorter and also this way you could tighten it up to not get caught up in you're other gear. Its a easy adjustment and good for picking splinter also hehehehehehe. Rick B

Does anyone have any bandoliers marked M14 API that they would be willing to part with. I just received as a gift a bandolier of API from 1953 but they are in a M25 tracer bandolier.
