I want to get a new deer hunting rifle. I want to know what yall think is the best rifle for that amount of money. I think I could probably get a Ruger M77 Hawkeye All Weather at that price. What do yall think is the best rifle for that price?

    Mmmmm,

the Marlin bolt action rifles have gotten a lot of great press, great writeups in gun magazines, and great posts on this forum.

I feel you could put together the gun and a quality scope for your budget.

The Ruger Hawkeye is a good choice.

Tikka makes a nice one under $700.00 and so does CZ.

Ditto on the Tikka, T3 Lite model...mine is very accurate - sub moa - and light enough to carry all day. For me it picks and points just perfect.

personally i like the savage 111, or a older rem 700. both are decently priced around the 450-500 dollar mark and then you can put decent scope on them to make them even better.
i have a 700 that will shot 1" groups all day with any ammo and my 111 in 300 win is the same.

for the savage i paid $ 400.00 for it put a $200 scope on. and that was 2 years ago.

I've used a Savage 110, Ruger M77, and Ruger No 1 all in 270, and the deer couldn't tell the difference

Ah, another satisfied Savage man - I swear by them. When I was buying my grandson his first rifle I came across the Model 14 American Classic, in .250 Savage at a good price. Hard to find ammo locally but CTD has it. Thought it would be a light recoil set-up for him, one which will also make him learn to shoot accurately, one shot and get out the knife. Besides, all kids get a .243 and since he's my grandson he's special!

Sub-MOA rifle for $300, that's why we love Marlin X-7's!!
Slap on a nice Nikon scope and you'll nail whatever you aim at :D
