I have a Savage 99 in 300 Savage the rifle shoot pretty decent I like the 150 Gr. bullets I have shot Hornady 150 Gr. FB & BT. Because of the short neck most bullets protrude down inside the case I know this isn't the best thing for accuracy. I'm wondering if some other bullets brands might give better results.

What little I worked with this cartridge I used 150gr spire point, flat base softpoints.Took a while to find records but we were using IMR 3031 at 2650fps and had 2" and under groups. We tried 130,s at 2750 with about the same accuracy but they seemed too soft for deer but great for varmints. sam.

Try 125 Nosler ballistic tips. I use them in my 99s and my re-barreled 1889 Mauser. Very accurate, very light recoil. The .300 does best with 150s and lighter. Anything heavier just doesn't have much oomph.

The 180 gr @ 2400 fps and the 150 @ 2700 fps is a wash on energy. I've seen a load claiming 2800 fps for a 150 gr. That would be about 10% more energy. When you're talking deer sized game though it's just not important. Some tout 1,000 ft lbs for deer. So this is double. Figure some guys using handguns on deer at 500 ft. lbs, and you're hitting with 4 times the power, at 100 yards. 1,948 or 2,000 ft. lbs, it just doesn't matter. If you want to shoot an elk at 400 yards, then I can see saying it doesn't have enough oomph.

I worked up a load using Reloader #15 and the Hornady 150 Gr, SST interlock bullet with a Med. crimp with my Lee FCD this past weekend,It shot Sub 1" groups at 100 Yds just under 2500 fps. I'm Happy with that.
