I bought a used S&W 65-3 .357 magnum round butt 3" barrel yesterday for $270. It has been bead blasted and I suspect a triggerjob (back when this was made they had a reputation of outstanding triggers). I can give it no stronger endorsement than buying one.

Also...did anyone else read the "Gun Tests" article on police trade in .357 magnum revolvers. Police trade in revolvers are probably the best value out there.

I've bought 2 police trade in Smith & Wesson revolvers. A 3 inch barreled round butt model 65 .357 magnum. I also bought a 4 inch barreled square butt model 67.38 special. Both K frames, both stainless, both less than $300 (each) and most importantly I would feel very well protected with either one.

I have a Taurus Model 85 Airwieght. I carry it as a back up on my vest on duty. I like it. Accuracy is directly related to range. The thread starter did not specify a use for the gun. That could change the variables greatly ie: hunting, personal defense, target, plinking etc. There are a million plus great guns out there. What's it's intended use?

Don't understand the Canada rules, but I shoot a .44 Superblackhawk, ("silver" with adjustable rear sites) which chambers the .44 mag and the .44 S&W. I prefer the .44 S&W shell.
A 1911 Colt is fun also, altho I think you give up some accuracy and reliability with an auto.

If I could only shoot at a range (not having to concern about stopping power), I might just get a Ruger .22 SA....

Hmmm. I've never know any Ruger to be the best choice for the money, but that's my opinion. I was going to mention the Taurus. I see the titanium 357s for under $500 at gun shows. IMO, if you can only have 1 revolver, you are best served by a 357 Mag.

Rugers always a good choice for budget and quality, I'm suprised no one has mentioned Taurus yet, real good for the money.

I've got three .357's and they are all Taurus revolvers. Whoops, make that four, with one being a Ruger Security Six. My Model 65 ($275) is accurate enough for whatever I should need it for. I also have a Silhouette 66 ($370), with the 12" barrel. If you're into L-O-N-G distance, it's a hard one to beat. It looks weird, but it gets the job done.
The other 2 are strictly for self-defense, both being snubbies. One is a Taurus 605, and the other is the Ruger.
