Let's pick one caliber... say .45ACP now which one would you go for ? a 230 grain hollowpoint at say 850 to 900 feet per second or a +P 185 grainer at 1200 to 1250 feet per second. Why ?:fuss:

I'd have to go with the big and slow. They go alot deeper I love the 300grn flat point 44mag or the 200grn round nose 357 . The 44mag makes a big and long hole a combo that's hard to beat.

I split the difference between the two loads and use cor-bon 200gr +P's in my kimber.:target:

Big and slow. This is a crude example, but think of a baseball at any given velocity and a whiffle ball at twice that velocity. As Colonel Cooper says, "Velocity is evanescent, mass is constant."

Mike, poor analagy. Try baseball and golfball at twice the speed for a better comparison.

I said it was crude and I meant it!

I like the 185 grain +P Golden Saber in the .45ACP. I didn't compare calibers. I gave y'all a choice of grain weights & velocities in one caliber.

OK, I would go with the lighter faster hollowpoints. I think that versus "man sized" targets, 150 gr on up is plenty big.
