Whoa...no new posts in the MN section!
we can't have that, can we?

Does anyone have a good photo of bolt handles relocated from the safety lug?
i've seen a few on the 'net but no real good photos of the bolt body itself.
also if anyone would tell how they did it, that'd be great also.
    thanks

    Relocated from the safety lug?
    I don't understand...

Are you referring to the mod where the bolt handle is moved to the rear, the receiver is notched, and the action is bridged for a scope mount?

The American Rifleman had an article several years ago Mosin-Nagant and the author moved the bolt handle to the back of the bolt and notched the receiver...perhaps a search of the NRA's American Rifleman might help

There's one in the Shotgun news as well. They had photos and detailed the project through three issues. I emailed them a while back and asked what issues they were in, as I give my old copies away, and didn't have them anymore. Well, they answered and I lost my email in a server/client hi-jinks, so might have to email them again...

Appears that the bolt handle is just welded onto the bolt body.

There's a number of Shotgun news copies that I should have kept and those are ones I wish I had.

    Wis,

Thank you for the pic....again. I lightened my "firing pin assembly" Cocking Knob exactly as you did. I listed my weight reductions in the thread about "Reducing Lock Time". You don't need instrumentation cause you can hear the difference. Thanks for the pics and advice. Till I saw yours I had a complicated scheme involving drilling holes in the Cocking Knob to lighten it and that, while it would have worked to some degree is far less sat than what you have done. I still have a "safety" cause I upgraded to the Timney Trigger.

seems this crops up from time to time

Back during a 1970's era gunshow a customized Italian Carcano showd up for sale allot of folks were confused by it because the bolt had been moved to the back receiver and notched in, the split bridge receiver was filled in and a receiver sight installed where the bolt handle one passed through.
Mosin bolt relocation in the last year guns and ammo I think featured another mosin with this mod done, I believe it had been also featured in Shot Gun News (July 21, 2008 issue of Shotgun News)

i wonder if any damage is done to the bolt body by welding so close to the camming surface? i was looking at my bolt yesterday and it seems awfully close to the cocking ramp

i don't see any reason at all for the last two pics. the first pic at the top of the page is the only reason i can see to do it. he added a base for a scope mount where the bolt handle would normaly slide through.
