I've heard Boyds are pretty good, but the chances of all the stock pieces matching are kind of slim. Can anyone tell me what to expect in terms of matching colors/finishes on their stocks ? Is there a method of dealing with them to obtain more closely matched pieces ?

I have a Boyds stock and it matches pretty good. Good, tight fit and nice grain. Had to do some minor fitting inside of stock, but I'm happy with it.

  3. I have good success with Boyds

I bought several from Boyds. When the CMP was selling rifles without stocks. Tooling was great, Vary minor fitting. I bet it was due to my xtra re-coating it with linseed oil.

In my own opinion which others will agree,
It is better to shave a little off each one to get excellent fits on all when fitting to a rifle, rather than open it up at the factory for just a few.

    TIGHT MAKES RIGHT :D

You get what you pay for! I have found the Wenig stocks cost more, but are a much nicer looking and fitting stock. Much closer to original GI stocks. Not fat like the Boyds no extra fitting needed.
