This was recently confiscated in a drug bust. Can any of you ID it? I'm not an expert, and I'm not really sure what it is.

Your picture appears to be an older version of the AK pistol. The muzzle is the Krink style which makes me think it is not a Darco.

However, it looks like an early version of the Kalishnikov pistol. Here is one of the current offerings with that Krink style muzzle device. KP-104 7.62X39MM PISTOL – COLD HAMMER FORGED - Kalashnikov USA (kalashnikov-usa.com)

There were a lot of different versions imported. Your picture shows the normal or full size that was imported as the Draco and others, I think with a 11.75 inch barrel. The more common today is the Mini Draco which I think has a 7.75 inch barrel. If you have not fired them, trust me, the noise and blast is significant., and why people try device and device for the muzzle, hint, nothing works, except a full auto rated suppressor., even then the noise is still annoying.

Here is one called the Hellpup Kinkov.

They are very common. Atlantic Arms usually has a lot of them for sale. Kalashnikov KP-104 Pistol for SALE - AtlanticFirearms.com

There are people who say that no one really has a reason to own one, but I know for a fact that they are among the very best re-assuring defensive weapons on the planet. I carried a Mini 30 in my tent when camping in bear country, after, I had a bear come into my tent one night while I was sleeping. These guns in my view are among the very best weapons to get a bear off of you or stop and attacking mob or that rare event where a group of hogs or dogs attacks a human. I have also had to walk through an area after dark where a bear had shown unusually interest in me earlier in the day, sure wish I had one of those with me then. Not many better tools that one of these for the truck gun when you get out where cell phones do not work, as I often do in 5 states. I actually did not want to spend the money and built an AR 300 BLK pistol, not the power of these and longer because of the buffer tube, but with 30 rounds I feel just fine with it in the dark.

Great little guns and really give new meaning to the term home defense. I have fired several similar, much more accurate fire than you would think by just holding it forward and aiming over the sights, hitting an 8inch gong at 25 yards is easy and 12 inch at 50 yards no big deal and man size silhouettes at 100 yards also pretty easy. Much more practical than I would have thought. And that is why the druggies and thugs use them, they work and they send a message to the other druggies and gangs they compete with.

If you think about it, one of these under your bed would be much more practical that that 12 gauge pump under my bed. If you live in town, you might want to use that frangible ammo but the otherwise any cheap Russian ammo works great in these. I like the 154 grain soft point loaded by Wolf and Tullamo myself.

I was hoping someone would get me interested in another gun to need. This money is really cluttering up the place. To be fair, it's the way you described it as a solid truck choice, and I already know darn good and well that I am already looking for one of those. No harm done, I reckon, just another choice. I appreciate the knowledge, I wouldn't have given that option the time of day.

I am not sure a Draco or one of those short loud ones is something anyone would say that they "need". I have been issues submachine guns and short shotguns (10 inch barrel) and a few odd weapons for close up defensive use. However, I have never found myself knocked to the ground with a gang of angry bikers or terrorists or zombies when I was so armed. That said, I have been on lots of missions where I followed a gun on the way to a safer place. When choosing my own weapons for a truck gun or survival gun, I never really got excited about the Draco and those types of weapons. I built a 300 BLK with a 10.5 inch barrel as an RV gun. It goes on trips once or twice a year.

That said, regardless of how inaccurate they may be and how noisy they are, having 30 rounds in the gun is a big deal. If you step out of your truck or RV to investigate a crime or a bear, you have some firepower. I once had some guys that stole a truck and brought it to the RV park I was staying in. The fools pulled into a campsite and were stripping the truck. So, the noise and activity was too much, so I went out to investigate with a Walther PPK/s (380) in hand. I simply shined the light and asked them what they were doing. Three of them and they had an attitude, one of them started toward me for unknown reasons, I guess to punch out the old guy, I dunno, but as I ran around the truck to meet him I fell, and as he rushed toward me, I stuck the little pistol and flashlight forward as I got up from the ground....."he has a gun, he has a gun..." I would like for you guys to leave, no problem. and in 2 minutes they were gone. We were at an RV park in Amarillo Texas with maybe 50 campers nearby, and these guys just drove in , picked an empty RV sight and started stripping a stolen truck. The little 380 solved the problem.
Now, I will never do that again. I have the 300 BLK pistol that will lead the way, and my pistol, now a 9mm for EDC will stay in the pocket.

So, the Draco or AR pistol or whatever would be the perfect gun for events like that. And the camping we do in bear country is always a risk. The camp host where we stay had a cougar snatch their small dog while they were eating, the dog was within 20 feet of them. Same guy had a bear rare up at him from about 6 feet away when he was just out gathering the trash. So, those guns would be good for an RV as well.

An then there is home defense. I like an AR carbine or SKS or AK even with the shorter barrel. But these 7-11.25 inch barrels are just fine tool. When you look at the energy of the 7.62 x 39 or 300 BLK out of these short barrels, you have over 1,000 foot pounds even with the short barrel, that is equal to any 44 mag. So, 30 rounds of 44 mag as fast as you can pull the trigger...yea, that would be a pretty good defensive tool.

Now you NEED one. Pick one and let us know how it works. And those thangs work in any truck, Dodge, Ford Chevy, Yota....

A little different - Bin Laden's AK of choice was a Russian made AKS-47u, used by special troops, helicopter pilots and the like.
OP's post looks like a typical Draco pistol, considering where it came from I'd guess American made.
