Went into Sportsman Warehouse, to look at deceleration pads.
As the thread by Swede Steve had me interested.
Found a med & large, and was not sure which one would fit.

And asked one of the fellas, behind the counter.
If I could try putting it on one of the Marlins.
He gladly handed me a gun.
    And the Med, fit perfect.

    W/o thinking I also asked for a Winchester 45-70.
    He handed me on too.

I immediately knew, something was wrong.
And said this is NOT a Winchester!
    "He laughed and said!
    Yes it is.

It is one of the brand new Browning manufactured ones.
    I was shocked!
Both the fore grip, and butt stock felt loose.
The loading dust cover looks funny, with the screw there.
I just did not FEEL like a Winchester!

Then the most shocking, was the price.
    It was $1100.00 + dollars!

    Don't know about you folks.
But if they don't change, my days of buying new Winchesters.
    Are diffidently done!

    The counterman said himself.
Not one person, has yet liked the changes. :yell:

That is truly sad news about the Winchester. :( Such a proud tradition....ended.

I bet Marlin is laughing right about now.

Another reason to look at a "used" Winchester of your choice. Plenty of really good examples available.

    The new 1886 Winchester 45-70.
This also has a shotgun top tang style safety.

Maybe it is all in my head.
But it just did not feel right.

When other companies start producing firearms previously made by a different company it will take the new company time to get it right and sometimes by the time they do people already dont want to try them.

The guns today are not made by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The guns today are "Branded" under license by Browning Arms Company and Fabrique Nationale.

Thanks Grizz, i'll try and get over and take a peak !!

  11. Winchester hasn't built a gun since 2003. All the new "Winchester" are only stamped Winchester. The new lever guns are made in Japan by the way. And if I'm not mistaken, you can get a "Model 94" in Winchester or Browning

I thought the new Model 70's were made in the US? Am I wrong?

  17. I think the Mod.70`s are made in U.S.A...The other ones are made by browning in japan...All brownings are made in japan..Every thing that has the browning name are made in japan..EVERY THING.Another thing to be aware of is,the jap browning guns don`t have bluing. They paint the finnish on metal.NOT blue.

  18. Japan will never produce a gun comparative to an American company
