Just some thoughts of what I want(kinda cursed but don’t judge) - kalashnikov system, Krink gas block but integrated suppressor alike the vss vintorez- but I wanted to go with a subsonic handgun cartridge for an insanely quiet firearm

could probably find one of those 223 models and convert over to 300 blackout easy peasy the suppressor and such would be addressed when the barrel was done.
it's real close to a handgun cartridge[think heavy slow 357 magnum] but the feeding and magazine and bolt would not need to be messed with.

Wouldn’t mess with a gas system operated gun for a pistol caliber. Simple blowback works fine.

Runfiverun makes a good point. With all the world politics going on with Russia and China, if they are the only source for the correct size ammo for the platform you are planning to build, you might be in a pickle down the road. Factor that into your decision matrix.

Blowback is a little louder, but yes, it works well for PCC. I would opt for standard rifle calibers for gas, subs for x39 exist, and yes, they are practically silent.
