A 47fps spread is great for something you virtually dreamed up and metered,in fact it would probably be good for me with careful loading.I dont know about the .45 when you get to it but mag primers might solve the unburnt powder factor.Congratulations. sam.

i dont mind 4 or 5 kernels unburnt.
    this powder is very clean.
nothing like the others i have tried in 38sp. and 357mag

i was suprised that 3 shots were exactly the same speed.
and no the chrono was working fine (i wondered too!)

45acp has to wait until i get the dies and that groovy press i bought from uncle moose.

but i will do the same thing.
just load a few and carefully test them.
    then test them again.
    and again
then maybe i will make a bunch.
    safety first ya know?

    Sounds like a plan!

even if each charge takes twice as much powder by weight instead of another type .
    it is still cheaper.

because other powders cost more than twice as much.
(yes i am watching my dimes here)

    i used a

    Standard deviation calculator

    13 shots

    Standard deviation
    42.22537446276546fps

    average fps
    960.6923076923077

a max load should be 1413fps

    fastest 1019fps
    slowest 880fps
i am beginning to think this is a safe load.:09:

thats what i told someone else.
wait until i test it a bit.
it seems ok to me.i fired 30 rnds. today and there is some dirt in the bbl. but not too bad.

    NEXT QUESTION!
ok i feel safe with this load.
what i need to know now is....
can i use this load in a 38 sp. case with the same bullets?
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME!
i am well below minimum velocity which is 1243fps. and my fastest load was 1019fps.
the reason i ask is because i have a lot of 38sp cases.

Using the same load in a shorter case would build more pressure but what I hear is it would work as long as the 38,s dont split.Ive seen them do it but others say they wont.I personally only load .38spl loads in .38spl cases.Where is Mooseman? sam.

he thinks i am a fool for buying that powder.
    but i couldnt help myself!

so he is probably leaving this thread alone.

oh well i will just use trail boss in the 38's.
    i know thats safe!

the max loads with trailboss between 38 sp and 357mag are identical.
    thats why i asked.

  10. Awwww, HELL no!

Do NOT do that...the dynamics are all different. Less airspace, more of a powder charge = cases split up and other baaaaad things happening.

If you're going to do .38 spl with this powder, I'd drop down to about 6.5 as a starting load, and see what happens first.
