In the Winchester Forum I posted a question about the blueing on a model 94 30-30. I didn't know that this forum existed at the time. Would anybody mind reading it and giving it a stab for me. Thanks!:stupid:

  2. I don't own a Win AE lever gun, but I am wondering if maybe the receiver is aluminum and what is flaking off is paint. It's definitely not bluing, as blueing must abrade off, due to the fact that is is molecularly bonded with the base steel.

If the receiver is aluminum, there are a couple of options:

    (1) strip everything off it and anodize it. This is not easy, but can be done by the amateur gunsmith. Check out an old discussion at groups.yahoo.com/wecsog .

    (2) refinish with some type of spray on finish such as moly-teflon or paint.

If the receiver is steel, you can have it reblued or phosphated.
