Firearm Question

Hello all, I'm new to this forum. Someone is asking for some information on a firearm that was passed down to them and attached are a few photos. He doesn't know the caliber or manufacturer but there are some manufacturing stamps on it.

If you need any additional views or information that can help I can see what I can find out.

Thank you,
Warren

Welcome, I agree with it resembling a flare gun.

It looks like it could be some kind of Liberator type single shot gun.

Proof marks look British, looks a bit like one of the many 1 inch flare pistols.

Thank you for your replies. It looks so small to be a flare gun but.... that's why I'm here. Would this have been used on ships and does any have a guess on a date range of manufacturing?
That is what was know as a "Boot Pistol" often imported from Europe. You unscrewed the barrel to load it. This is a percussion cap fired weapon.

Thanks AK, that's something I would have guessed and in line with what Jim says.
Well I used flare guns in the Coast Guard but not that old. But yes, looks like an antique flare gun to me.
Thanks Jim, any guess on a date range?
Most of these range from 1820-1890 ?? a wild guess? Many were carried during the Civil War 1861-1865??
