I am interested in doing volunteer work in my community. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get started?

Possible, yes. Legal, no, period, end of discussion (unless you are a licensed full auto manufacturer with the priviledge of building guns for the government). How? Not here, ever.
This is assuming that you live in the United States or Canada. If you live in another country that allows full auto for civilians, good luck finding the info, cause it's not here.
All that notwithstanding, some people will tell you that you can make a gun full auto by filing something inside. Don't believe them! While it may lead to repeated fire, it may be uncontrollable (ie doesn't let up when the trigger is let up) and can set off a round out of battery, which is extremely unsafe. This is NOT how full autos work. Full autos are specially designed to fire only when the round is in the chamber. What such a job would do is induce a dangerous malfunction.
In short, DON'T do it, EVER.

its easier to upgrade your trigger finger 
By Federal Law, no new full auto weapons can be manufactured for civilian sale after May of 1986. A Class II manufacturer can build them, but can sell only to Military, Law Enforcement and the Government Agencies who use such weapons.
The rigamaroll to get the Class II license isn't worth the trouble and expense unless you are going to do it as a company.

Lost, with just a little interest and a little experience it would be possible for you to learn and understand the fireing cycle of a marlin .22 rifle.
with that knowledge it would be possible for you to alter your marlin to fire in a different mannor than it was originally manufactured to do.
Your question leads me to believe you have a very limited knowledge of firearms
or you are baiting us to tell you how to do something that is incredibly illegal.
If you succeed in altering your marlin severe federal penalties await.
These forums are shurely monitored and many of our members are Law Enforcement people.
So, Lost, getting your marlin to fire in a fully automatic mannor is inappropriate, to say the least.
BTW My pet kitty cat can figure out how to make ANY semi auto fire full auto.
Engineerring and manufacturing the parts, That is another story.

Dennis, I lived out in the boonies where if I didn't tell someone I had a full auto no one would know. So having a marlin 22 and a junk marlin and being a lot younger and stupider than I am now I decided to try it. The closest I could get worked in theory but in truth the firing pin followed the bolt back down and didn't have enough forct to set off the second round. So I took the parts that I had butchered out and replaced them from the junk gun and put it back legal. It won't work. Give it up. Don't ruin a good gun trying.

If you are on the level and not some anti gun whackjob trying to elicit an illegal response...ie:Sarah Brady's clan of very tightly wound storm troopers....

Shootin Machine guns looks like an awful lot of fumn, and there are legal places to do so. But shootin full autos is also expensive with all that lead flyin downrange, your wallet will empty on an equal rate...even with a .22....

You can rig up a crank to fire each shot faster. They are made for $30ish and called the gat trigger. Such is legal. Internal mods are not.
