Gentlemen,
During testing in the mid to late 1930's the M1 Garand was built to fire in semi-auto fire only. What is your point of view on the M1 Garand having full-auto and semi-auto firing built into it before we got into WW2. We know that many of the people working on the Garand Project 5 at SA were looking at this.
Thanks again
Clancy

it would have been to hard to control. the BAR had more weight and could be controlled a little bit better. Ammo, only 8 rounds. they would have to modify the mag well or use a detachable mag to increase the capacity. they basically did the same stuff to the M14, but it was to uncontrollable.

like what genwinters said...too light and hard to control. hell, as a semi it was one of the top 3 battle rifles ever made!

A 3 round burst with a M14 is all you can control, more then 3 rounds is a waste of ammo. The 4th. round would be flying up to heaven. Not a very good rifle in full auto. BAR was good, but only 20 round mag. It had a buffer to reduce recoil. And it was heavy.:feedback:

They were sensible enough NOT to build the auto option on this rifle!!!!!!

If they'd made them full auto it would be a lot harder for civilians to own them, even with the laws at that time, so that's one reason I'm thankful they weren't full auto. I wonder if that was on someone else's mind too, that already having SMGs like the Thompson and LMGs like the BAR, there should be a standard issue rifle that could be used in common between military and militia.

One well placed shot is worth ten thrown all over the place.
M-14's needed the bi-pod for good accurate full auto use. Even the BARman had a metal cup on his specific cartrige belt to help in control of that heavy beast.
BAR vs M-14...BAR wins out.
