M5 is post WW2, 10" blades will be correct,as will 16" blades. The 10" come two ways,"cut-downs" and "un-cut",the cut-downs were earlier 16" blades shortened to 10". You can tell them by the "blood groove" extending to the end of the blade. Also can have a spear point or bowie point. Bowie are rarer.

As a bayonet the 10" is fine. As a field knife it's ok,as a fighting knife,it sucks. Handle is too short,steel is too soft to hold a good edge,and it's too blade heavy. Besides,by WW2, bayonet charges were pretty much a thing of the past. But for guarding prisoners,riot control,or parades,they are ok,and they do look cool.
