Just gotta get me a big bore or a magnum for them grizzlies and I'll be ready.
I had the 700 on layaway for a while and just sprung her.
Man, I guess it's just because it's an early rifle before they made cost cutting changes, but the trigger is like butter...

Reality Check...That is a gun for hunting and being used for its purpose, so a few pits won't hurt your feelings when you trip and ding the stock, or the rain soaks it to the core, or you drop it climbing out of a stand, Who the heck wants to take a Beautiful New Rifle out where its gonna meet Mother Nature and sit around bellyaching cause it got scratched ! Got MEAT ????

ORD..I have to admit...I bought a Pre-64 Model 70 Winchester .300 Win Mag in a Pawn Shop out here as I have been using a post-64 and Most of my hunting partners use pre-64s. I got it home and after examining it, I discovered it was UN-FIRED...The Leupold scope had never been zeroed, and it was in 99.8% new shape, so it was worth 3 times what I paid for it...So..
I put it in a special Case and have Never fired it just because of the value, so I still hunt with my Post-64 beater rifle...Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

I'd lean more towards litigation issues on the trigger. When the gun companies started getting sued left and right, the good factory triggers were the first to go.

I love my 700, you have a nice looker there :right: Born the same year as me to boot:cheer:

Shaun is right. The 06 is good to go for any North American game animal. Use a high quality projectile, handloaded or factory in the 220 grain offering, place the shot & walk away proud.

Got to shoot it today.
What a fine rifle. After zeroing the scope I was doing 2 1/2 inch groups with Korean milsurp .30/06 I had laying around.
Unfortunately lost one of the dust caps for the scope adjustment screws. I think someone took it. I'll assume by accident.
Hopefully I'll be able to find another one.
