California Sportsmen Should Contact Governor Davis to Protect Firearm Industry- (09/25)

The California legislature has approved two bills that would allow absurd lawsuits to be brought against lawful firearm manufacturers for criminal use of their products. Sportsmen in the state should contact Governor Gray Davis and demand that he veto these bills.

Senate Bill 682 and Assembly Bill 496 would remove the exemption for lawful firearm manufacturers from product liability lawsuits. They await Governor Davis’ consideration. He has until the end of September to either sign or veto the bills.

Under current California law, gun manufacturers can be sued if a product they produce is defective. These bills will allow suits to be filed by crime victims and their families who seek to hold the firearms industry responsible for illegal firearm use and violence.

Take Action! California sportsmen should contact Governor Davis and ask him to veto SB 682 and AB 496. Tell him that these bills would open the firearms industry to frivolous lawsuits that will not reduce crime, but will hurt lawful firearm manufacturers. Use the Legislative Action Center on the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance website,, to contact Governor Davis or call him at (916) 445-2841. Fax (916) 445-4633.
