Give this one a look folks. I did and am rethinking some ration setups for my bags.
One large ziplock bag could hold stuff for 3 meals a day plus condiments.
Also, in their craft aisle, dollar Tree sells metal storage tins in two sizes. The larger one will hold a single serve Jif peanut butter cup snugly. Another could likely hold 3-4 crackers. Something to stick in a pocket or pouch. Instant oatmeal, instant soup or rice or potatoes. Plus single serve coffee packets and maybe even jelly packets from the convenience store. Lower expense going through the grocery store than maybe Mountain House or such.

BigEd63, Thanks for posting, I will watch the video with my daughter. Our focus is towards our Bug Out Bags and having food that can be eaten easily or with minimal heat and eat effort.

Did you know you can stump a store clerk by asking which aisle has Diet Water...you will typically hear they don't carry diet water. Then say Regular Water is a suitable substitute and watch their expression to see if their brain clicks. 😁

These packets are good for camping, but the dry ingredients require more water to prepare. You'll need to watch your water usage closely. You'll also want to taste test them at home or you'll find a couple that don't set well out in the bush.
I carry a wide mouth stainless steel thermos, so I have something already prepared without having to stop, break out the stove and prepare from scratch. I also re-use the boiled utensil/ cooking pot water in the thermos instead of throwing it out after cleanup.

The way somec of the people in one of the world's largest retailers are getting.
I'm tempted to ask "Do you have any dehydrated water?" Or. "Do you have any gluten free whole wheat bread?"

Since I don't backpack canned food workes for me. In the past camping on the beach MREs worked great, one way to eat hot food without getting sand in your food. For real portable food I use trailmix, dried fruit, nutragrain bars and jerky. The next step is canned ready to eat food like kipper snacks. Next step is easy to heat food like beans, chilie. The last step is cook over the fire food like steak and tators.

I get folks that come in an ask "Do you have any non-gluten, non-GMO, vegetarian, ovo-lacto, meals?" I just tell them "No. We make food here."

So if my wife and I come to where you live I guess we won't be eating at your place since she is allergic to gluten.

Just order non-gluten stuff and you'll be fine. We typically try to accommodate someone who has a reasonable request but some folks think that I am a personal Chef who does specialized diets. If that's what you need then I'm not your guy.

Mom is now allergic to gluten, which makes cooking for everybody harder because we are also all lactose intolerant. Lactose intolerance is an inherited thing, but based on my personal research gluten intolerance seems to be linked to the chemicals they spray on wheat. That would explain why nobody was gluten intolerant 100 years ago and everybody is now.

(Lactose intolerance is a lot easier than it used to be because they now have lactose free milk, cheese and ice cream, that comes out of a cow just like the regular stuff. I don't do the soy milk thing.)

Yeah I know. It is just that after 47 years I am a bit touchy about protecting the wife. What I would really like to do is slap all the fad dieters that caused some people in the world to make fun of this issue.

Amen. If all the people who said "I'm allergic to gluten" WERE actually allergic to gluten we would have a major health crisis in America.

I've tried the almond milk stuff and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It was a bit sweet and a little on the 'oily' side but it is a reasonable substitute for someone who can't tolerate cows milk. I could probably get used to it. Hey, if I got used to drinking non-alc beer after I quit drinking, I could get used to almond milk!
