As a couple of you might remember I bought a Norinco SKS back in January. Stupid me I didn't check it out as thoroughly as I should have-last time that will EVER happen.
With other rifle purchases around the same time, I haven't had a chance to shoot it a whole lot, maybe only 100 or so rounds through it.
Last time I shot it I had a 2 slam fires. I put it back in the corner for another time. Got it out yesterday, and took it apart. I believe the idiot who owned it before me might have tried to make it full auto by tampering with the trigger sear.
- I can cock it, let the action fly forward, and can't switch the SAFETY back and forth 10 times without it fireing-dry fireing it of course.
-If however, I cock it, let the action back VERY SLOWLY, I can switch the safety on and off as much as I need too without it fireing-again dry fireing ;)

What do you guys suggest?

I thought I would order a new trigger assembly for it, and some newer parts.
Need some feedback-this rifle is very dangerous right now and I am not going to take it out again untill I can fix this problem.

Sounds like it has been moronized. Does the trigger/sear show file marks? Seems really unlikely that this would be the result of natural wear. I seen an AK couple, three months back, that would fire when the bolt is closed. The moron tried to get a 2 ounce trigger pull on it. With a file! Classic example of "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing."

It looks that way to me. If I only had another to compare it too side by side....

I'll have a look-see in the shop tomorrow. I have an SKS parts gun. I don't recall if it still has the trigger assy. on it. If it has, I'll talk to the owner nicely (a good friend of mine) and I might be able to get it for you.

I'd take it in to a good smith and have him confirm your suspicions.

If they prove true I'd go back to where ever you bought it and let them know (if, for no other reason than they might know who sold them the gun to begin with) and let them know what is up with the rifle.

BTW, check with Numrich's...you might be able to buy replacement parts for it.

Man that would be great if so, and would really help me out. Send me a Private Message later and fill me in. I would really appreciate it.

Dale- I would take it back, but I bought it through a private seller, so I can't go that route. A BIG learning leason-and a rookie mistake on my part-I should have know better. But sometimes these things slip through the cracks....

A FCG replacement should definitely do the trick. I'd do that no matter what. If your dealer can help you with the costs so much the better.

Why not just say "Fire Control Group = Trigger group" in the first place. Simplier is better. :D

How about just leaving my four extra characters go instead of writing a whole new post? :p Bet ya spent more time thinking about it than anyone else. ;)

Now BRG3...that wouldn't have made my point. So get on with your acronymns and test us again. :D And...don't you need to be working on building your custom built computer? :right:

BTW...did you find a career opportunity yet? Haven't heard anything on that subject since close to your graduation time.

:D :D :D :D :D That's better than being sent up the river.

In that case your acronymns might be something to leave out of your speech.
Are you counseling the homeless hanging out there...or the people fishing? :D

Chris Farly was great-and peace be.
So again, I guess I need a new trigger assembly.
I really want to go shoot and, later, hunt with my SKS-though tampered with. So I think I'll replace the trigger assembly first and see from there. Hope this fixes it. I don't mind a slam fire, as long as it's pointed in a safe direction. But who can ever tell if that's so unless it has been messed within the first place. Surprises like these are unwanted at best.
