Pleased to meet you. Be great if you introduced yourself.
Your rifle is a Karabiner 98 Mauser made in the former Czechoslovakia when occupied by Nazi Germany in 1944.
Made at Mauser-Werk Bystrika in what is now Slovakia.
I hope that info is useful to you. I'm not a professional appraiser and I don't know you from Adam so I won't presume to put a value on it.

Thank you so much for that information. This rifle was my fathers but I have no idea how he came to have it. Very interesting though!

If you have a local gun shop that SPECIALIZES in militaria and historic firearms, go there. Second choice would be to look up collector's clubs. Third, your local firearms auction house.

Otherwise, go to local gun stores and see what they are getting for similar items in similar condition. Around here I've seen everything from $700 to over $1000.

Or you can go the tried and true: Look at all the auction sites online, giggle to yourself, and multiply the average of what you find by 60% or so. It isn't accurate, but it is more accurate than what people are asking.
