One must ask oneself with a 22 LR having a range of over a mile what is the range of a 7.62X54R. If you were to shoot a squirrel in a tree with a Mosin, where is your bullet gonna go, how far??? You'd be better served with a properly sighted in 22 and be picky about your shots.

I'm gonna have to agree with sbowers5 on this one. Back when I got my M44 Mosin I shot a groundhog end for end with whatever the yellow tipped fmj ammo is and I know I hit it because when I walked down there there was intestines laying in the yard and the groundhog wasn't smart enough to know he was dead because it made it back to the hole. Never again did I shoot any animals with fmj ammo lesson learned,

Factory loads with fragmenting bullets are going to be hard to come by if you can find them at all, for that type of bullet in the 7.62X54R you'll probably have to load your own.

You need to slug your bore first thing, to find out what size bullets will work in your rifle, then worry about what bullets to get. All 30 caliber weapons were not created with the same bore diameter.

Good Luck in your endeavor, but try a used Marlin Bolt gun in 22 LR of some shape or description. I've never in my life seen a Marlin that wasn't accurate, though I've not dealt with the ones made by Remington and from the reviews I've seen, won't
