I got one from 1952. It is real nice. Are there any markings on the front sight?

  3. Check for that Snipe grade dude.

  4. Alan what do you mean? Klaus i dont have the weapon yet. I just won it Saturday.

  5. Klaus can fill you in better. There are markings below the front site that determine what grade of rifle you have.

The Russian SKSs have numbers stamped on the front sight post to reflect the result of factory accuracy tests, supervised by the army. "1" is usually referred to as sniper grade.

What do these numbers go up to??

they go to 3. From what I understand, 1 is best, 2 is fair, 3 is marginal.

  9. So does that mean if I get one that has a 3 its a piece of crap??

My understanding is that it means it was pretty inaccurate with the test ammo. I have been unable to find out exactly what the test criteria were.

  11. I just cant imagine the Russian army issueing a "defective" weapon.

  12. Got the russian today, it has the one stamped on the front sight. I am looking forward to shooting it on Sunday. Nice rifle, its a beauty!
