I have a question please.

Discussion in 'The Powder Keg' started by alan c., Jul 28, 2002.

  1. If a handgun was purchased with a 10 round mag. Is it legal to use a hi cap. mag in it. Let me clarify--gun laws-- 10 rounds only.

Not sure..I own a Cobray which is classafied as a handgun..came with 10 rd mag but I got the 32 round after market.. I thought the rule was that no hi caps could be made for stuff after a certin year...the magazines were restricted not so much their use. Also got the state laws to deal with too. Sorry I cant help.

  3. The 10 rd. versus the year. I agree -just can't remember. Thanks Doglips. Oh by the way nice Wolfey.

It is illegal for a civilian to have a high capacity (over 10 rounds) magazine manufactured after 1994. All magazines made after the Klinton ban are supposed to be stamped with the date of manufacture, though many illegally only say LEO instead of the date. This law expires in 2004. This is the federal law; some commie states (like PRK) have stricter state laws.

The hi-cap mags made prior to '94 may be used legally provider they arn't marked as LEO only, or US Govt. For a long time after the ban Para Ordinance was suppling pre-ban hi-caps with any new gun sold as an accessory to the required 10 round mag.

  6. Ok let me explain--a freind at work purchased a Ruger P 95 that came with 10 rd mag only. Can he put a bre-ban mag in a newer pistol? From viewing the statement that Klaus made I would say yes. So the age of the pistol doesn't matter.

Alan, the answer is yes, you can put a 1000 round mag if it existed and was made prior to 94., If the hi-cap doesn't say Law Enforcement Only (LEO) your in good shape!

    P-95 good firearm.

  8. yeah here in PRK we can't have anything over 10rds., also any gun that can accept hi-cap mags can't be brought in to the state, unless it's for LEO's
Which brings me to this, if the people here can't have hi-cap weapons, yet here in Los Angeles (where i live) every LAPD patrol car has a gov't surplus M16A1 in the trunk, does that make this a police state????

If you owned a HiCap magazine in the PRK prior to the ban on over 10 rounds, then you are "Grandfathered" and can still use the magazine. If you allow another person 18 yrs old or over, to use the magazine, the law requires you to be present at all times, in other words you can't lend it to another individual to use, (take home or . . . , that would be a misdemeanor) except when they are using it in your presence. Now, it is a felony to allow a person under the age of 18 to use a firearm with a magazine over a 10 round capacity, the same as allowing a person under the age of 18 to handle a registered "Assault Weapon".

What I find really strange, is that in Redding, PRK, a company is producing 2 versions of AR-15 look alikes. One of them is a single shot, and the way the receiver is made, you can't easily adapt it to hold more than one round. The other has a 10 round built-in magazine that you load with stripper clips, with the action broken open like a shotgun. Both rifles are legal to buy and sell in the PRK, they are not considered "Assault Weapons". Both rifles can use any of the standard AR-15 uppers, and probably some not so standard. They are more expensive than a standard AR-15 is/would be/ . . .

I understand that hi-cap mags and full-auto rifles are only good for shooting large numbers of people; WHY then,do the Police NEED them? Just something to think about.
