It looks like a "pistol grip" type long rifle (some wood slant after the receiver).

Those stocks look birch to me with some stamped checkering. The bottom line is you picked a great gun that was ~$400 when new.

I can watch the FS threads in my local market. I'll be all over one.

I guess Sun stole the tech from Winchester and then offered a cheap substitute?

From what I've read, the patent on the Winchester ran out and Savage then used the design. I don't know who owns the plant in China. But I have read Savage designed and financed it. It's main function is to build Savages inexpensive Stevens brand.

It's just another option for those on a limited income.
