If you could only own 5 guns,

which might they be? Massad Ayoob poses this question in the following video.

If you are ONLY into defensive guns OR only into hunting guns OR only into competiton guns, this might not be a hard choice BUT if you are into a number of various firearms endeavors this might not be easy to limit one's battery to such low number.

It might be especially hard if:

-you collect guns
-you have a number of defensive guns tactically stowed all over different parts of your home, vehicle, airplane, boat, person and/or business
-you hunt multispecies

I kinda took the question as a fun exercise in prioritizing.
Dealing with circumstances. Possibly, but not necessarily laws, or restrictions on rights. Just general conversation.

At one time my circumstances required, me to sell most all firearms, at close to original purchase price. Nothing to do with 2A. But temporary isues of health and poverty.
Out of hundreds of very valuable guns. I only kept three cheep ones, thru this trial.
A Sears and Robuck bolt action .22lr.
A Stevens 60's era 12guage 3shot pump. And a Maverick (early High Point C9 prototype) 9mm.
The .22 and the 12, were for food on the table. And the "High Point" was for cheep range fun, and self defence( when budget 9 was about 11 cents a round).

Some times it comes down to a roof over your head, or your families needs. Just plain finances.
Exercises like this can fun. But also be a exercise in dealing with situations that later on may be overwhelming, If previous contemplation had not occurred.

If you could only own 5 guns...... I'd say muskets are out of the question ! why are people even placing these as a option ?
If I could only own five guns, I would own one rifle, one shotgun, one handgun and two of most desirable expensive guns in the world so that I could sell them for millions, buy an Island, and shoot the other three every day.

Muskets as well as rifles and pistols of the pre cartridge era use black powder for the propellant. Black powder can be made in your backyard, lead can be cast into bullets or round balls, and flints can be used for ignition. By making this part of your arsenal, you are assured of having a weapon regardless of the ammo situation.

I included a musket in my post because it is one of 5 family guns I will not part with.

Though At least 90% for people are not musketeers nor have means to use or make these items to use for a musket in their own backyard !
I'd hate to admit it to you the fact that Archery is still more relevant nowadays than Black powder hunting is !
FYI I've killed more Deer with a Bow than a gun ! & at less than 30 yards !

Ok this is far of from reality, black powder guns are far from normal use today !
if you choose to back you life up with a black powder gun then so be it & live your life in the olden days.

Bringing a musket to a modern gun fight is like bringing a knife to a gun fight.
This isn’t about having a gunfight. I thought it was about having five guns to use for a variety of needed uses. Certainly a muzzleloader be it a rifle, revolver, pistol, shotgun, or musket would be useful as it was in the early 19th century and earlier. They were very effective in battle and in the old west. Having one in your arsenal as a backup weapon would be particularly valuable if you had no cartridges or should guns be outlawed. Remember that the ATF does not designate muzzleloaders as firearms. In such cases, a muzzleloader may all that you have and you will be glad you did. This is my preference, but you are entitled to your opinion also.
