I once asked one of those "pros" giving a seminar at the boat and travel show. "If you were to buy ONE thing what would be the ONE thing out of all these booths you think would help catch fish more than anything else?"

He replied, "You can't buy it?"

WHAT? All this EVERYTHING for sale at hundreds of booths?

You can't buy it. What ever bait you buy, use, borrow, here or any where else, KEEP IT IN THE WATER. Every time you take your bait OUT OF THE WATER, you make it impossible to catch a fish. If you WANT TO CATCH FISH keep your bait in the water.

If you happen to ever get to the birthplace of Beetoven, and go to the grand cemetary to look at his grave, listen closely and you might get to hear one of Beetoven's major symphonies being played backwards. If you do hear it, don't worry though, it's just Beetoven decomposing. Also, probably won't do you much good for fishing.

It's the first day of February, its cold, and I went to the garage and low and behold, my fishing gear is in the back corner of the garage with about a million pounds of stuff in front of it. Looks like I might just have to buy some new gear when the stores start carrying it again.

And when the fish aren't biting, you can listen to Bob Seger for the song NIght Moves and bring back memories from long ago. Even Kid Rock's song All Summer Long is another good one. Then a fish bites and all of a sudden, that becomes the most important thing in your life.

Keep your bait in the water.

I clamp a little bell on the rod tip, that way I don't have to work so hard. I can just sit and relax until the bell rings.

Grampa fished a farm pond back in the day and would use a hand crank from an old phone that would electrocute them, and they'd float to the surface. He'd net a couple for dinner and the rest would wake up eventually and go back to the depths.

How shocking...bet the fish found it revolting as well. That same device would cause the worms to come up for easy pickings.
