NL come that there are a lot of readers/lurkers here and very few posters?
No input leads to a dead board and there are way too much of those around...

I lurked for a while before joining and was still tentative initially. I've made some great friends here. Some are still only internet and/or phone friends and we've yet to meet in person. One of those folks was on the phone just a few minutes ago.

I also read the posts for years before joining the site. I am busy quite a bit and sometimes I answer a few posts or comment on them and many nights I only have a few minutes to read and run.

I didn't. I loaded up this forum and immediately started posting. I could not believe what ignorant, boastful and misinformed group of people joined on this forum! ICH!!!!!! Now, since I have been here the intelligence of this forum has greatly improved. :09:

....and if you believe that I have some property 100 miles west of Los Angeles that I will sell you! Cheap! :09:

Naw, I think the issue is that people look at the forum, think they have nothing worthwhile to add and move to another thread. Heck, having nothing worthwhile to say never stopped me!

Oh boy, wait until Paper finds this one........I will never hear the end of it.

    Guisan...a newbie here maybe, a board newbie..NEVER!

Think I first saw you posting in the Swiss Rifles Furum. I know I sent a couple PM's at you there! Remember me looking for a magazine follower? lol

I would estimate that forums in general have about 90% lurkers and cruisers and 10% members, and of the members probably somewhere between 1% and 2% are active on a somewhat regular basis. G&G probably isn't far from the norm.

I came here looking for advice on buying my first centerfire pistol. I had a chance to get what I thought was a great deal, but I wondered if there was a catch. I asked a couple of tentative questions, got some reasoned answers, and looked around the site. I seemed like my kind of place, so I stuck around. And over the months that followed, I found that not only was I learning things, but that I had things to offer that others seemed to like. I made friends, and after awhile found I had acquired an online family.

That, I don't think is typical of most online forums.

That's only because TNPIRATE, has not found this thread yet! :swordfight:

I usually try to find my answer to a question "in the forum", only when I can't, then I ask a question, so not to ask questions that have been answered before, and annoy the "old" posters!!! My posts are "quality", not "quantity"!!! ;)

If a person, for the first time, attends an often-scheduled public meeting on a subject of interest, that person may well just listen, for several meetings, and see if the going's on are suitable, and "fit" what that person is seeking as far as a source of information/association. I think that for the first handful of meetings, that person will likely listen, and begin to participate gradually. Seems to me that's what happens quite often here. I've joined and left different gun forums, but I've been here longer, and more regularly than any others. Every forum has it's "unique" members, and G&G is no exception. That being said, I view the "family friendly" environment, as being very attractive to those folks who I would care to associate with. Gun and Game is the only forum I've ever seen where "family friendly" is part of the forum rules. I like that, and I think others do as well. :usa2:

I still find it amazing, 11 replies now after one month no postings at all...

Gandog56, people ask me for parts every day that is why I don't recall your follower request now. You have been on the forum and you might have noticed that we have at least some 10 postings a day there, average now is 21.

    I hope they're not trying to push-start a B-17..... :D ... sorry, I couldn't help it. :usa2:

Of the specific rifle forums, only the Mosin one seems to get heavy traffic. I was trying to find info on one of these boards for a Luger and never got a response. It's just a matter of high and low traffic areas.

    Thinking about my own postings:
    1. Hey, I've got a problem with this equipment and need advice.
    2. Hey, I've got this great equipment, and need to brag.
    3. Here's something funny.
    4. My life just took a major hit.
    5. My Second Amendment issue is:

Of all of those, most fall into category 5, and get posted in Powder Keg or Political.
Category 1 & 2 both go into equipment specific forums.
Categories 3 & 4 either go into Humor, Prayer, or Powder Keg.

Now, you posted this in Swiss Rifles; but it's not a Swiss Rifles specific topic. I bet if ya posted it in Powder Keg, you would get fifty replies in the week or so it's been up. The only reason I noticed it was because it was (briefly) the most recently updated thread in the military rifles sub-group. I looked, because 'newbie' was in the title, and I'm always looking to offer a newbie the same encouragement that I received. BUT out of all the follow-up posters, only gandog56 said they owned a Swiss rifle. I don't; betcha most others don't. So, that, I believe accounts for the low incidence of posting that you are seeing; like PaleHawkDown says, it's just not a high traffic area.

It is A B-17 bomber that landed in Geneva in April 1944. Most of its crew was interned. In other words, Around 1,750 American aviators were held as prisoners of war, by the Swiss Military.

Guisan, The Swiss forum you speak of is dedicated to Swiss rifles only? ( I'm fairly sure I've been there) If so that would explain the higher amount of traffic you experience. Any one who wants to research anything knows to ask the specialists. G&G's forums are a little more like a "jack of all trades" being there are so many forums. As far as the Mosin forum receiving soo many posts, one has to realize that many of those posts are primarily conversation.
Like "how to open a spam can" and several other similar threads that seem to go on forever. They are just for fun but do account for a lot of traffic.
Posters like to hang out where there is a lot of traffic, like the Mosin forum or the Powder Keg. Don't get me wrong I'm not implying that Swiss rifles are boring as I own 4 K31's and think they are great. And many others around here own them as well, but being they are so accurate, easy to mount a scope on, not a rifle customizers choice, and problem free. There is a lot less to talk about. Just my opinion here. I will say this though, if someone starts building barrels and receivers for the Swiss stgw 57 parts kits so one can build a semi-auto version you'll be seeing a lot more action in the Swiss rifle forum
