This is the largest Alaskan polar bear ever recorded. From Kotzebue Sound, Alaska in 1960 weighing a 1002 kilograms or 2,210 pounds and stood 11 feet 11 inches in height. Here it was featured in the Alaska exhibit of the Seattle World Fair.
@Rex in OTZ is from this part of the state.

Back a few years ago we had Polar bears moving inland.
One was shot in the area near Noorvik AK east of OTZ the other was in the area of Noatak AK north of OTZ, both were in the late November/ early December time of year.

Yes we have Brown and Black bears as well.

There was a bar I used to frequent that had the front door squatted that as soon as you walked in, you were facing a polar bear, about 7’ tall with teeth bared. Scared the holy bejegeses out of you if you weren’t expecting it. Used to love taking unexpecting dates there for a drink! I’m such a bad boy!!

When I flew back home from the Philippines back in 1986, they had a really big one in a glass case in the Anchorage Airport.

    Naval Tradition Old and New.

The amphibious assault ship USS America, the first in her class, was, this Spring, on patrol in the Pacific with a full deck of Marine airpower, including F-35Bs, and a hull full of Marines and their gear. One thing that caught our eye in recent photos of the ship at sea is the massive flag she is flying above her island superstructure—one that depicts the symbol on Captain America's iconic shield.

The crew takes special pride in manning the ship that carries its country's name. With a little help from Captain America's iconography, that pride and exceptionalism are taken to a whole new level.

    Democide?

Just to give perspective on this incredible murder by all 20th century government's, if all the bodies were laid head to toe, with the average height being 5', then they would circle the earth ten times. Also, democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the 20th century.

    I know what it is.
My father collected old maritime compasses, clocks, watches, whistles, sextants and mapping stuff.
It is a brass pocket sundial and compass.
As for knowing how to use the lid correctly, I don't know.
I know that it tells you what time it is, in different cities around the world.
