There was an outcry at the statehouse Wednesday from county sheriffs objecting to a bill they say would make it harder for them to deny permits to carry concealed weapons. The bill changes Iowa law to say the sheriff shall issue a permit except for a limited list of reasons. Representative Clel Baudler, a Republican from Greenfield and NRA Board member, says there needs to be more consistency statewide in issuing the permits.

That's a pretty amazing collection of quotes from those sheriffs. They're basically saying who does and doesn't get a concealed carry permit should be left solely in their hands, and they should be accountable to no law and no court or judge when they deny someone, no matter what their reason.

Talk about arrogance and petty tyrants...

Thank goodness we don't have to go through that kind of B.S. in Arkansas.
Why does a Sheriff have to get his pawls on it anyway,,,,,The FBI does a background check, that should be good enough don't you think ?...A.H

Did you read their bs, Mike? They were saying, "we know stuff about people even if we can't prove it in court, so our decisions should be final."

Troy, it seems that your petty tyrant tag covers them very well. These are the people we depend on to enforce the law. Scary, isn't it. Sounds like the voters need to elect a new Sheriff in these counties.

... sounds a lot like discrimination as well as defamation of character.

If proved in court, the Sheriff may have a case, but unproven, means nothing.

Last I knew... PD's rely on NCIS information, not personal feelings. They sound like a pack of Democrats.

That's just about the way the firearms licensing works in the UK.

The Chief of Police HAS to issue a licence unless he has GOOD Reason not to and Good Reason is fairly specifically defined in our laws!
