Of course, some Johnsons were adopted by the Marines. Did any other services use them?
And what kind of rifles are they carrying in the picture? They look familiar. Captured Garands? Or Japanese made copies?
Best I can tell from copying and expanding that picture a lot is that the rifles are Garands. So far as I know, the Japanese never fielded any M1 copies, although they built a small number of them. A production figure of 100-ish sticks in my head, but someone else will have to verify that.
Also, again, to the best of my recollection, only the USMC used the Johnson rifle during WWII, and that was very limited use, indeed: Marine Raiders, if I'm not mistaken, but not "regular line Marines."
My uncle carried a Johnson while in the Pacific with the USMC. It was a rather sore subject for him, as in his opinion the army got first call and the marines got what was left. I never knew if or when he got a Garand, except of course in Korea, and now he is not around to ask.
