Wood Composite material Gas Flooring Hardwood

After a second large storm event with record setting high storm surge, a week after was Atving down the beach I noticed a gun barrel sticking out of some floatsum trash at the highwater mark.
Wood Office supplies Hardwood Varnish Flooring

I posted on finding it 30 days ago.
And so far a few calls but none for a tube fed .22.
This might shape up to be a winter project if nobody can come fwd and claim it.
In meantime I should deactivate the rust.
Any suggestions?

that rifle looks really rough on the outside and I would bet the insides are equally bad. The bore could not have faired well nor the action parts. The receiver looks better which may indicate that it is made of an alloy. I agree with Cryano that the rifle needs to be stripped to determine if it will be a shooter or a wall hanger. The rifle isn’t a Ruger nor a Marlin model 60. Winchester as well as Remington made tube fed .22s similar to this one many years ago and many were sold under ”house brands” like Sears, Montgomery Ward, and others. Perhaps the OP will clear this up after cleaning it up a bit.

Everything I see on it screams marlin. The front sight, the tune mount, and the comb in the buttstock are typical marlin. I had an old Winchester, they had a separate fore end and buttstock. Could be a store brand made by marlin?
All the old 22s are fun. Gave the old Winchester to my nephew and a 10/22 to the son in law, I was collecting too many of them. This way they get used.

I have a Marlin Glenfield 60 that I bought and paid for myself at age 13...that was over a half century ago. Still love that rifle, and a bazillion ;)
Didn't your Mom tell you about a quadromillion times to not exaggerate !

I wouldn't doubt it as far as store brands go.
I don't remember all the specific brand names but do know that: Otasco, Montgomery Wards, Sears and possibly Western Auto and K-Mart had their own brands. Although my memory is sketchy on the latter two. I'm really thinking now that K-Mart and Walmart stocked "economy" model variations of a few different long guns that weren't regular offerings.
I generally consider those to be the fairly innocent downward spiral that ended up as the race to the bottom in America's firearms industry.

I always thought of that era as the heyday of firearms. Let the people with money buy the pretty deluxe versions, and the more generic versions still allowed the lower income brackets to enjoy the sport, or hunt, or whatever. Especially since the actions and barrels were identical. Sure, the checkering either was absent, or pressed in, the stock wasn’t actual walnut, etc….but they functioned just the same. And were made in the USA.

That's true, what I'm referring to as "the race to the bottom" was when it later got out of hand with the big box stores, led by Walmart, demanding firearms makers provide certain models at a fixed price and no more.
35-40 years ago it truly was a golden . Like the difference in a Winchester 70 push feed and a 670 was basically a checkered walnut stock vs. a plain birch stock.
Some places like K-Mart offered the Remington Sportsman's 12 which looked like an 1100 version of the 870 express, for significantly less.
Then there were plain, birch IIRC, Marlin model 60's out there.
Now it's polymers, MIM and minimal QC by temp service employees.

And blaster, is your Glock 26 functional?
yes, it is. I replaced all the springs except the magazine spring, put new sights on it and thoroughly cleaned it. its a good shooter with factory ammo but doesn't like my reloads.

Glad to hear it likes factory ammo. With reloads, the bullet ogive may tend to make for a "fat" load requiring the COL to be shortened.

I found it with the bolt locked back, the barrel was full of the coarse gray sand we have here.
Took a bunch of messing with it to be able to run a cleaning rod down the barrel

I was able to get it to function.
I will have to get a target set ip to see if it groups or patterns.
