M1 Garand Danish WRA / VAR BBL

I'm thinking of submitting to CMP for a service grade Winchester Garand. Can someone tell me about the Danish issue with the Val BBL? Is this a good combo or should I stick with the non-Danish Service grade WRA? This Garand will be used as a shooter. Pro's / Con's???

Thanks,

Marcus

If I had a choice on a shooter get the VAR. The value of these barels has risen since people finally seen there tollerances are better than a service grade barrel. With a Winchester the value is higher becasue of the name and maybe donw the road you will find a good WRA barrel for it. There are no Con's on a VAR barrel unless it is bent I have seen them with a bad muzzle still out shoot a good muzzled U.S. barrel.
Another note many are geting these to be legal at the John C. Garand matches and be close to a match barrel performance. Rick B
"Thank you kindly Rick B."

Best Regards,

I have a Danish with a VAR barrel that seems to be a pretty tight barrel. I am not that good with open sights so I hate to say how good it shoots. At a 100 yards I am shooting in about 5 inches with Remmington and Winchester ammo. What I am impressed with is how well it shoots at 300 yards. I can hit a 2' dia. gong about 1 out of 4 trys with the other shots coming close. Good luck.

Rick where did you get your information regarding tollerances of the VAR barrel? Have you actually measured them yourself? Or heard this from someone else?
Rick how do you know the tollerances of the VAR barrel are better. Have you measued them? Or has someone told you this?

Doc
Please Doc what ever trouble you are trying end it please. I have proof and refuse to answer you anymore since you are following all of my posts and trying to start trouble. Rick B
I am not trying to start trouble! I am just trying to figure out your experience. One more time. Are you a qualified and licensed gunsmith? Or are you basing your answers on a few years of trial and error?
Hey Doc H, I've been reading the gun forums for a long time and just recently started posting. From what I have gathered and what I have read on www.jouster.com, the Danish VAR barrels are highly sought after by marksman. If you need further proof check the CMP website where it claims they are highly sought after by competetive shooters. Granted, they're advertising their product, but if CMP lied to us in their advertisments they wouldn't have the great following that they do. From what I can see in your last post you're not interested in the Danish Garand, the VAR barrels or anything else other than finding out Stock Doc's claim to fame. I, for one, don't care what his license status is to work on guns. I listen to what he has to say and weigh that against all of the other fine posters on this forum. No one here is a "Gun God" so sit back and enjoy the conversation.
