Gentlemen,

In Oct 1937 Winchester wrote a letter to Ordnance about the M1 Garand Rifle. It seems that Winchester wanted data from Ordnance about the operation of this rifle. Winchester also wanted one for testing at Winchester.
What was the reason for this request ? What was the reply from Ordnance about this request?
Remember I need two answers for these question

Gentlemen,
The answer to this 1937 quiz is as follows:
The first answer is that Winchester was looking to get into a ammunition contract.
The second answer for this quiz is as follows:
Chief of Ordnance in 1937 said that the rifle was to "Confidential" for data to be given to Winchester.
