There's nothing particularly sacred or expensive about the m48A rifles.

Considering the low cost for out-of-the-box accuracy on modern rifles, if it were me, I'd just buy a Ruger American or Savage.

Yugo rifles are still very much available more than other model Mauser rifles. No matter what I would not ruin its value and drill or tap or cut anything. Keep it in original military configuration for value. Also if it was a gift or passed down then I would keep it original.

Like they say, dont do any modifying.
I remember when a Mauser could be bought out of a barrel down at the hardware store for $30. Although not uncommon, your M48 is in that category and will do nothing but increase in value.
